The podologist is a recognized healthcare profession in Italy (D.M. 666/1994). The same sterilization obligations that apply to dental practices apply to podiatry — D.Lgs 81/2008 does not distinguish between them.
Podiatry is recognized as a healthcare profession under D.M. 666/1994 and regulated by Law 251/2000 and Law 43/2006. Registration with the Albo managed by FNO TSRM e PSTRP (Federazione Nazionale degli Ordini dei Tecnici Sanitari di Radiologia Medica e delle Professioni Sanitarie Tecniche, della Riabilitazione e della Prevenzione) is mandatory to practice. Entry into the profession requires a 3-year university degree (Laurea triennale in Podologia, Class L/SNT2). As a healthcare facility using reusable invasive instruments (scalpels, nippers, burrs), the podiatry practice is fully subject to D.Lgs 81/2008 Title X: the same reprocessing, traceability, and archival obligations as a dental practice. The 2010 ISPESL Linee Guida and UNI/TR 11408:2011 are the operational reference. The Legge Gelli (Law 24/2017) applies in full: documented sterilization is a defense element in any professional liability claim.
