Sterilization compliance for podiatry practices in Switzerland

Podiatry in Switzerland is a regulated profession — the SBFI Framework Curriculum Podologie HF of 7 February 2022 explicitly codifies infection prevention, decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization as core professional competencies. Independent treatment of at-risk patients (diabetes, vascular conditions) requires the HF qualification.

Podiatry in Switzerland: sterilization as a core competency

Kantonsarztamt / Service du médecin cantonal · Cantonal Health Directorate · SPV (Swiss Podologists' Association) · FSP (Swiss Federation of Podologists)

Podiatry in Switzerland is regulated under the EFZ Ordinance (SR 412.101.220) of 29 September 2020 and by the SBFI Framework Curriculum Podologie HF of 7 February 2022. The Framework Curriculum explicitly codifies infection prevention, decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization as core HF (Höhere Fachschule) competencies. KIGAP 2010 (status 2017) explicitly names podologists among the user groups of small steam sterilizers — the only professional group outside dentistry to be named in the KIGAP. The SPV (Swiss Podologists' Association) is the primary professional society; the FSP (Swiss Federation of Podologists) is a parallel society recognized in SR 412.101.220. The SFPV (Swiss Foot Care Federation) covers cosmetic foot care — distinct from medical podology. The cantonal practice license is granted by the Cantonal Health Directorate; the Kantonsarztamt inspects practice-level reprocessing under MePV Art. 71/72.
