SecuSteri vs SegoSoft, paper register and Euronda E-Memory in the Netherlands

The Dutch sterilization documentation market has a clear landscape: the paper register is still the baseline in many dental practices, SegoSoft (Comcotec Messtechnik GmbH) is a BSI-certified on-premise documentation software also offered to Dutch dental practices, and Euronda E-Memory ships with Euronda autoclaves. All on-premise solutions are Windows-bound, primarily dental, and per-device licensed. A brand-independent, cloud-based SaaS solution covering multiple professions did not yet exist — until SecuSteri.

On-premise sterilization software: established but limited

SegoSoft (Comcotec Messtechnik GmbH) is the best-known solution: BSI-certified as a class IIb medical device, supports up to 300 devices via RS-232/USB interfaces, offers digital signatures, SegoLabel for barcode labels, and SegoAssign for patient-level assignment. However: Windows-only, per-device licensed with a mandatory ServiceCard at €215/year per device, no mobile access, no cloud, dental and medical only.

Here lies a unique Dutch complication: SegoSoft was built in Germany to satisfy the MPBetreibV — the German codified reprocessing regulation for reusable medical devices. When the Dutch legislator implemented the Wmh and the Besluit medische hulpmiddelen (BWBR0043470, Stb. 2020, 130), they deliberately chose NOT to bring dental practices and general medical practices under Articles 6 and 7 of the decree. The explanatory memorandum to that decree (Stb. 2020, 25054) substantiates this exclusion explicitly. Supervision of Dutch dental care runs through Wkkgz Articles 2 and 3, the KNMT guideline on infection prevention and the IGJ Supervision Framework for Dental Care — a field-standard supervision regime, not a codified Verordnung. SegoSoft's central compliance value proposition is therefore a wrong-jurisdiction fit for the Dutch dentist: it was built for a legal regime the Dutch legislator rejected.

MELAtrace (Melag) is software that works only with Melag autoclaves — Melag is one of the most widely used autoclave brands in the Netherlands, so for many dental practices MELAtrace looks like the natural choice. But as soon as your practice operates a Melag plus a second brand (W&H Lisa, Castellini, Mocom, Euronda, SciCan, Tuttnauer), the multi-brand traceability story breaks down: you end up with two parallel systems that are not connected.

DentalRules (Almere) is a Dutch quality management system for dental practices — focused on KNMT-guideline compliance, procedures and personnel policy. DentalRules is not a cycle-traceability system: it manages the reprocessing protocol, not the individual cycle records per autoclave per batch number. SecuSteri and DentalRules are complementary, not substitutes — a practice using both keeps protocol management in DentalRules and cycle-level evidence in SecuSteri.

W&H ioDent (W&H Austria) is hardware-bundled traceability software that ships free with W&H Lara and Lina autoclaves — strongly represented in the Netherlands through E Dental, which carries W&H as its sole autoclave brand. Works well for single-brand W&H practices; for multi-brand or non-W&H practices it is not an option. As with MELAtrace and Melag, this is hardware-bundling as market strategy, not cross-brand cycle traceability.

Italian autoclave vendors (Castellini SterilConnect, Mocom Di.V.A., Euronda E-Memory) offer comparable hardware-bundled software. Like the German and Austrian equivalents above, they work only with the manufacturer's own autoclaves. The Dutch dental practice operating multi-brand therefore has no consistent traceability record without a brand-independent layer — which SecuSteri provides.

Dutch dental practice management systems — Exquise, Simplex, Oase, Novadent and the rest of the PMS landscape — manage appointments, billing, patient records and (in some cases) patient communications. None of these systems handles cycle traceability at the batch level per autoclave — that is a separate category. SecuSteri does not directly integrate with these PMS systems, but the tamper-evident cycle evidence and 20-year WGBO archive sit cleanly alongside the existing PMS workflow.

SecuSteri does one thing and does it well: complete sterilization traceability, from the autoclave cycle to the patient, for every profession in the Netherlands.

Prices are indicative, based on publicly available data as of May 2026. SegoSoft pricing varies by number of devices and contract configuration.

A practice with 2 autoclaves, 1 washer-disinfector, and 1 sealer pays €860/year in ServiceCards alone with SegoSoft — more than a SecuSteri Pro annual subscription (€828/year) which covers unlimited devices with cloud access.
